Most people disconnect the coil pack harness, and just crank the motor over until it build pressure. The connect the coils and fire it up.

^ Yep, what he said.

Its not like a Gen I motor where you pull the distributor and use a drill to spin the oil pump shaft.

I just finished doing this to my new 383,,, take the valve covers off, pour the oil in working from front to back on each side until all in, Remove the oil filter and crank the engine, (the best way to do this is to remove the spark plugs, pull the fuse for the fuel pump, and unplug the coils) turn the engine over until you see oil coming from the filter housing. make sure your oil filter is full of oil, Then put it on, continue turning the engine over.. I JUST did this today,, My car pulled 40 lbs on the stock gauge, and 38 on my mechanical. Once you have your oil pressure continue cranking until you see oil coming from all the rockers, and you are done bro, Cover it back up and you are good to go.
I fought this problem for a whole day, pulled the plugs, coil, pump relay, turned over for 5 minutes,, no pressure, tried again and again, scared the crap out of me. So I started thinking, I knew it wasnt the oil galleys or o-ring because I built the motor.. I ended up draining all the oil, and doing what I posted above and it worked like a champ..
BTW I have a melling pump so your pressure may not be the same.
I hope this helps , and saves you some time.

+ 1 on doing this without the spark plugs inserted into the heads. Cranks faster and less load on the engine bearings.
