You check your oil? See if there's any mixing in there? You smell it coming out of the exhaust. First impression sounds like a head gasket possibly.

My yukon did this and it was the water pump gaskets. Apparently they tend to go bad. Never left a puddle on the ground but would leak and burn off the block when running so it always smelled of burning coolant.

Check the timing cover to see if anything is dripping from the water pump weep hole; as already stated, check the engine oil level; if you are using a factory style power steering pump cooler, check the power steering pump reservoir; with the hood up, check to see if there is a splatter line from coolant being slung off the belt; check your overflow tank for cracks. I guarantee you it is going somewhere, which means it is coming from somewhere.

well started taking things apart only to find that my nice semi new griffin radiator is actually damaged!!! one of the cooling tubes actually got pinched and theres fluid all around the fins so i take it its been leaking when the car gets hot and the fans help dispearse any evidence and that would explain the smell when i come to a stop... so add a new griffin radiator to the list of replacement parts WTF...
