Default CAM too big? dyno number issues

having some issues with my new cam that i had put in my car.. laying it out

working with a 408 with 235CNC TFH and Fast 92, 48lb injectors

had a TR raptor cam in the car and it put down 500rwph
(236/242 615/615 111)

i now installed a TR stroker on a 110LSA and its now putting down 408rwhp
(248/254 - .615/.623 - 110)

whats the issue here guys? is that too much cam for this setup or is something wrong?

Numbers look like a cylinder isn't firing. The cam is fine.

well when i got there they were tearing down the rocker arms and pushrods, we ended up putting back in the stock rocker arms (had Hal Sharp rockerarms) and trickflow 7.65 pushrods) and stock pushrods...

saying that the the valvetrain geometry is off... tomorrow is a new day

chime in

Valvetrain instability?? A graph would be very telling, plus them changing back to stock rockers may also suggest your floating your valves.

That cam should make killer topend power with that cam and heads. Something else is not right. Post up a graph that can sometimes be helpful....

If the PR's are too long the valves will hang open and you can lose signifigant power....92hp seems extreme though.... I think you will figure it out but your shop does not impress me..

well got everything fixed, the TF PR were too long and the stocks too short and had to shim the rocker arms, all is running well now and the car is putting down 527 and pulling to 7200. the valves were staying open and not getting good compression. will update later with a graph

408 with tfs 235s and you only made 527 rwhp? How much rwtq did you make? I'm willing to bet your torque numbers suffered a bit due the cam chosen. I'd really liked to have seen my cam run with your setup. 239/243 .623/.623 113+3 Idles like stock, drives like stock unless you get into it. Awesome lowend 420 rwtq from 3000 rpms up.

I mention this due to my considerations at rebuild time is to bump compression by running a different piston and adding the TFS 235's. My goal is to make 570+ rwhp without giving up the stout bottom end.

Do you have the graphs available for post ? I'd like to see your torque numbers.

Forgot to ask, what vehicle is this in, what trans, rear, and gearing? How much compression you running? All factors play a huge part in the dyno number. I may have been off base when I said only 527 rwhp. I guess I was basing the comment on how my 402 did with Rps Twin Plate lite, carbon fiber drive shaft, and RPM stg III 3.42 diff. This son of a bitch flies. I can only imagine what the topend would be like with a bit more compression and some 235's !

Thanks for posting, really want to look at your graphs and know more about your setup. Thanks

sorry for the delay, im back at work in another country haha

the motor is in a c5z with stock 3.42 gears

CR is 10.5:1 i believe off the top of my head

looking to keep the CR around 10 to due the fact that it has a shot of gas on top of it. and maybe a procharger down the road.

car is blistering fast right now, cleaned a few 670+ cobras on just the motor before i left.

its a huge cam and comes alive at 2800rpm to just keeps pulling

i will see if i can get the graphs emailed to me to post

10's are too high for a procharger with any kind of good boost behind it.
