Default Stupid question about idle with MS3

I have a MS3 in my car. When I start the car when the engine is cold the car has a real nice raspy choppy idle. After it warms up it smooths out and doesnt sound nearly as good..

Is this normal??
Thanks

Is normal but your lsa has something to do with it 114 smoother idle and 112 is standard so what is your lsa?

I have my MS3 on a 113 LSA, and it idles around 850-900 rpms I believe. Holds idle just fine, and has a very nice lope to it. Sure it doesn't sound like something John Force drives, but its enough for others to know its not stock.

Is there a problem if you set the idle of an MS3 at say 700?

It chops harder on a lower idle right?

Will it die often, and if it does, why does the engine die?

It is a 112 LSA..
It idles right around 900rpm.(if i remember correctly)

Car never stalls out but when it is hot and is started it hunts for a smooth idle. Takes about 10-15 seconds to smooth out. Think it might be getting too much fuel at start up..

mine actually chops/lopes harder once its warmed up since the idle is lower at operating temp.

Engines die at idle because they choke themselves out. Too much exhaust gas gets into the intake from the overlap at low idle. That's what creates your "chop" as most put it. The engine is choking on itself.

It's normal for an engine to idle rougher on cold starts, mine does it... Mine also chops harder with the AC on!

any issues with having a lower idle, I know that motor is chocking itself but can it hurt the engine setting the idle lower?

If the idle is set to low, the engine may kill when there is a load on the front of the engine, like turning the a/c on or turning the steering wheel. Oil pressure may be alittle lower but shouldn't hurt the engine.

Mine hunts for idle on warm/hot start also with the ms3, stabilizes in about 5 seconds (or so).

also lopes awesome, idle is set at 850.

I love the sound, it's freaking awesome- 112 lsa

Do you have any idle clips of 850?

anyone try 800?

If you have the TSP shimmed pump oil pressure should be fine right?

That sounds too high, should be around 900 or so with a cam like that.

It either has a vacuum leak or something is wrong in the tune.

It is an Autometer Tach. It may be off a bit but the needle is a hair over 1k..

What would be the best way to track down a vaccum leak??

Thanks

Easiest way is to spray brake cleaner around possible problem areas and see if the idle goes up. If it does theres the leak.

Good spots to try are where the heads and intake touch, between the TB and intake manifold, vacuum lines and connections, etc.

Brake cleaner evaporates fairly quickly so it shouldnt hurt anything, might leave stuff cleaner though.

You could try WD 40 but ive never used that so im not sure if its flammable enough to work.
