You should use a new head gasket, after a machinist has checked the head surface to ensure it is true.

No RTV on head gaskets, ever. And no re-using factory head bolts.

Ok thanks, I have a new gasket, and new bolts.

Another question... I'm removing the passenger side head, i know i have to remove the passenger header, intake, fuel rails etc.. and then the head, will i have to disconnect the fuel line on the drivers side ? Or can i just move the intake / fuel rail out of the way ? Thanks for the help

Its best to disconnect but if it doesnt get in your way you may be able to zip tie it up. Install those gaskets dry.

What he said. ^^^

By dry, we're talking Brake Parts Cleaner dry, no residue on the block or head sealing surfaces.

And whatever you do, get every last drop of coolant out of the block's bolt holes or you'll crack it. I use a ShopVac, and then blow them out w/ a 100psi air nozzle.

^^^^What you said.

You can actually hook up the shopvac and suck that block dry before you even pull the heads off.

I've always used the copper spray on the block to make the heads seal best. It's made by Permatex and in a orange spray bottle. Alot of repair shops use this.

Configure the ShopVac for wet service (usually remove the paper filter cover so just the foam filter is in use) and apply the pickup nozzle to the upper radiator hose fitting on the water pump.

It will pull the coolant out of the block and you won't have it getting into the cylinders and bolt holes.

I also do this following a cooling system flush just to pull the garden hose water out of my cooling system prior to refill w/ antifreeze and distilled water.

Pulled the passenger head today, i thought i would find bad lifters. But everything looks ok. I had loud ticking coming from the passenger side at the rear of the engine.

Going to change all the lifters and put it all back together just in case. Push rods, Rockers, etc..all look good...

Hoping that the noise is gone tommorrow...if not... then i guess there would be damage in the engine. Did not see any metal shavings, cylinders were good, no nicks etc... so i'm kinda clueless

Not necessarily damage. It could be that sweet sound of piston slap. If its still there after you button it back up, I bet you money that is probably the culprit.

Changed all the passenger lifters.... And the sound is gone... I couldn't find any damage on the old lifters, but i changed them anyway. I'm glad it wasn't a spun bearing.

Either way... I'm going to start building up a new motor to put in.

I agree with this on a silver/grey foil type gasket. I did not use this however on my MLS gaskets.
