Default 222/222 566/566 lsa 114 and Heads

I really don't know anything above heads, just that I need to start considering a pair for this summer. With my current setup in my signature, what particulars should I look for to compliment the cam and the rest of the car? Is the cam too small to make any real power, say around 400 rwhp? Thanks!!!

Look for the flow sheet at the mid to low lift figures. Since those are best for the street. I have a set I'll sell ya. Here are somePICS LMK if your interested.

I put down 390 RWHP and 420 RWTQ wiht these heads and a 228 cam through a th350 4200 stall and 12 bolt with 4.10's. Wuld have been easily in the 430-440 range with a stock tranny and rear end.

check out Patriot Performance--------->
Maybe a set of their 5.7l or 5.3l heads or here check out this link
https://ls1tech.com/forums/sponsor-sales-specials/127208-new-lower-pricing-tsp-patriot-heads-cam-packages.html for some prices too.

What kind of gains are you looking for? Do you just what that SOTP feel on the street or do you care about track performce?

having a 98 patrot is selling perimeter bolt S2 heads right now for under a grand...might be something to strongly consider since it would be a straight bolt on...the flow nearly 300 cfm @.600 come with dual springs, tit retainers, bronze guides...would probably give you 20-40hp over your current setup even without having them milled.

Its pretty hard to beat that price. I think it depends on what you want to max out at.Those will be good till around 420hp.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am mostly looking for street application since I won't go to the track much. I would like to be over 400 rwhp with the setup I have. I don't plan to add gears right off since I drive to college and back each day, around 50 miles, but might add some 373s down the road. I don't plan to add a 12 bolt or upgrade the tranny more than is done either since I am not going to drag the car. I just like to use the power running around town I may go the track once or twice to see what she will run though. What do you mean by milled? Is that the same as ported? Can much be done with the stock heads?

Smoke T/A--what is the story on your heads?

Well they were ported by Elliot port works in Red Oak TX. The heads are set up for street use. They flow really well at low and mid lifts and would be great for a mild to wild street motor. I'll post the flow # when I get home since i don't have them infront of me (at work). They never been decked. I ran them for less than 500 miles. I took them off because I need some money to pay the house taxes this year. They have been pressure checked and the decks are flat even though they have never been milled. Ran a best of 7.51 @ 94 in the 1/8 with a spinning 60ft of 1.78 . Never ran it in the 1/4 but going off the 1/8th mile times i would have had almost a mid 11 on motor (11.64). PM or email if you want to work out a deal.

Smoke T/A--thanks for the info. I am just looking around right now, I wouldn't buy any heads till June I would say when I finally make up my mind on everything.

Of those heads on sale, for my setup, what would you all suggest? Just trying to get some plans...

i still say a good set of S2 perimeter bolt heads should be fine...nobody is making HUGE HUGE #'s with LS6 heads in comparison...yet there are guys with ls1 heads making 400hp everywhere so stick with what works and lower priced instead of going over the top and paying as such...perimeter bolts just happen to be easier to bolt on because u dont need new valve covers or coil pack brackets. If you dont mind swapping the covers and brackets you might wanna consider 5.3 heads unmilled as these will give you the same flow and higher compression because of the combustion chamber size which is really thee best way to raise compression.

How much of a power difference would I see between the 5.3 heads vs the S2's?

5-10 tops...you mean S2 5.3 heads vs S2 5.7's right? compression doesnt make a huge difference especially when your talking about less than 1/2 point but to some that edge is all they need

I would need tuning installing heads right? The previous owner had the car tuned when the cam went in. I would be adding an intake and tb also at that time. I see what you all are saying though since I started looking around, 5.7L stage 2 heads for a 1000 is a real bargain.

and no shops around here within 2-3 hours...I guess it will be a roadtrip. Would the heads put me over 400 rwhp?

Should I get a bigger cam at that time? I really just want to stay with the stall I have, it is more of a 3200 anyway, and not change really anything else with the car, but the cam/heads packages are pretty cheap...
