Default lifters: run my used stock or LS7?

ive read a lot of pros and cons with LS7 lifters lately. so i got to thinking maybe i should just use my stock lifters with 100k on them. im installing an ASA cam and leaving the bottom end stock. its a 98 motor but im running 241 heads on it with Z06 yellows, locks and retainers.

should i stay with my old lifters and run the well documented 7.425 pushrod with the ASA or run the new LS7's and sweat out the pushrod measurement? ive read all the threads on how to set up the LS7's but im still a little worried.

ive already purchased the new lifters, but i can always send them back.

You pulling the heads off anyway? If not run the stockers.

LS7's or Caddy lifters should be the replacement units. They were just soak and install on my buddy's 02 SS. If you got a couple extra bucks, get the LS7's, especially with 100k on your stockers. I've asked around about this before and the LS7's should be identical. We used a push rod length checker for the LS7's, while we were chasing a ticking as it was.

yes it does.

i already purchased the LS7 lifters. im worried about the preload. some guys havin issues settin these up. ive read that the stockers with a 7.425 pushrod is dead on with this cam. a lot of guys have done it.

and yeah the heads are comin off. im just undecided. im sure i can set up the LS7 ones by the info i got from guys on here. but im still tempted to just run the stockers. i just need advice to swing me either direction. with 100k the stockers have seen a lot of cycles.

no ,because of the base circle being smaller...you need a longer pushrod with stock lifters on the ASA cam.

I would swap the lifters if they have 100k miles on them. Just cheap piece of mind. If not you might chew up some lifters along with your new cam.

Default LS7 Lifter

This is what happened after 1750 miles in my engine, I would use an after market lifter.

This could have happened for a number of reasons. A stock lifter will work just fine in the majority of "replacement" cases.

The millions of stock lifters in use are testament to their quality. Your ONE failure does not condemn them all. Even aftermarkets ones fail, they get less press because the actual number being used is so small compared to the number of GM lifters it is not even a blip on the radar.

The sky is not really falling.

I used ls7 lifters with my cam, after 4k miles everything seems to be holding solid (knock on wood). finding pushrod length is not hard if you have a good length checker, im running .075 preload and i dont have any noise issues.

yeah i bought one. the procedure is a lil sketchy but ill figure it out. but now since the ASA cam doesnt have a cam card i have to do some research as to degreing it in. i think it wants to go in at 108icl.
