Default what to do about head gaskets?

well.....I baught my really nice new head gaskets for my motor (FelPros) and they have a crush height of 0.041"....the problem is my stock gaskets have more crush (0.056" I think) so I'm not sure how I can check P-to-V clearance. I could strap the new gasket on a crush it, but then I would need to buy a new $65 gasket.

any ideas?

Felpro`s are reusable you can crush them and then reinstall them.

I didn't think you could reuse a gasket?

why can't you reuse the factory head gasket then?

The factory ones don`t have a good coating on them as the FelPro`s do. And if it is that quick it will be just fine. I would not rec. reusing them after 10000 miles but to check clearance it will be ok.

Crush and reuse is the best thing you can to help settle them , other than retorque after driving motor and allowing them to cool completely.

I thought the FelPros were about the same thickness as stock? Are there different versions?

Yes they have stock replacement which is same thickness as OEM, and they have race gasket with .041" thickness and larger bore. I have used both, but i am currently enjoying extra seal and compression of Fel pro race gasket.
