Default oil pump installation

hey guys quick question. do you have to drop the oil pan to install a new oil pump? on an LS1 car

Ummm, the answer is yes. At least you have to drop it down enough to unfasten the pickup tube.

^ correct. You have to lower it, but no need to remove it.

Just loosen all of the oil pan bolts to drop it down a little bit. Like stated above.

yeah thats what i did. i just loosened it enough to get to the pickup tube but i didnt have to drop it. thanks guys

Make sure you don't booger up that o-ring. Put plenty of oil on it, and place it on the pickup tube before sliding on the pump. Do not insert it in the pump first.

I agree make sure to check everything over. A lot of people pinch the oil ring and have oil pressure woe's.

Do you have to loosen the two transmission bellhousing bolts too? Or just the perimeter pan bolts?

Do yourself a favor and remove all the bolts holding the pan to anything else. It's not going to come out of the car because of the K-member, but the more finger room you can get, the better. You dont even have to drain the oil

Starting that pickup tube bolt will make you invent new words. Get all the room you can
