Default LS1 Cam question..

Hey guys, i have a buddy who swapped an LS1 from a Corvette into a 1973 240Z car. The motor has a huge aftermarket cam and he is wanting to swap it out. I have another friend who is offering his cam from a 5.3 liter, not sure if it's from a car or truck, if that matters. Would this 5.3 liter cam work in the LS1?

Sorry if this is a real rookie question, i had a 2000 TA that i sold for a 2002 F150 years ago... i know i know..horrible long story.. lol..
I am looking to get back at least into a new Silverado at some point with the 6.2 if that helps my cause..

The 5.3 cam will work in the LS1 but it will make less power than with the stock LS1 cam. If you need a factory replacement they can be had on ebay for cheap.

The '01-'04 LS1 cam is the same as the '01-'04 LQ4 cam, and the '01-'04 LQ9. All 3 are the exact same. But not as good as the '00 'vette cam, which has slightly more lift, and a tighter lobe sep than the '00 F-car cam.

The LQ4 and LQ9 are both 6.0L, he is asking about the 5.3L cam. it is physically smaller, as I measured my LS1 cam before I threw it in my motor.

The 5.3L motor only came in trucks- note for the OP....

can someone post up the specs of the stock LS1 cam, or point me to where I can find all the stock cam specs?

Check the stickies for factory specs...it's all in there and the 5.3 iron block is
truck only....I believe SSR and some monte & impala SS got aluminum 5.3 rated @ 303 hp

Exactly, the 5.3 cam specs are too small. It would work, but power would suffer. However, the bearing journals are the same diameter, the length is the same, et cetera.
The 5.3 cam is a truly lame 191 / 190 - 114, 0.457 / 0.466"
The LQ cam can be had for $20 plus shipping, used, and specs at 196 / 207 - 116, 0.467 / 0.479"

So Ill ask in this thread, instead of making a new one..

I have a stock LS1 cam sitting around my garage, and am about to pick up a 5.3L, can I put the LS1 cam in the 5.3L??

Thanks,

Josh

For future reference, you really should start your own thread.
Yes, you can put the LS1 cam in the 5.3.
You might lose a little torque at really low rpm, but that's about the only issue.

if your friend has good valve springs on the heads look at a mild EPS or 224r TSP cam.he probably dose not want too much low end torque to save the rear.car weight ? rear gear?tranny?has he been to the 240/280 Z forum?
