patriot heads for $400
Hey guys as most of you know i recently bought my camaro and am new to the ls1 scene. I bought the car with Headers and a lid. since then i have put the ls6 intake on it, changed the plugs to NGK TR55 and the smooth bellow for $6. I have also deleted the ac and all its components. Im in the market for a sticky tire, a stall, heads and cam.
I think i have decided on the MT radial for my tire
I think im going to go with a Yank 4000 for my stall
and for my heads n cam its still up in the air. I have done a lot of research and just cant decide. i got guys telling me go big and some guys saying there is no need to go big. i would like for the car to run 11's thats just a goal i have set. the camaro is not my daily driver but i do and would like to continue to be able to drive the car on the street.
Well a buddy of mine has a pair of heads sitting in his garage that were on his trans am when he bought it. He said that he thinks they are Patriot heads. He called the company and gave them all the numbers off the heads and the guy said it sounds like its there heads. He said he will sell them to me for 500 and im thinkin ill bring him 400 cash and he will take it.
What do you guys think? i seen the heads and they are nice looking heads but im no expert lol.

does it have the casting number on the end, near where the valve cover would go, like 243 or 241 etc, I dont know what those numbers above are off top of my head would have to try to search and see if i could find out anything.

that is a gm casting for the 99-00 camaro. im pretty sure the early ls1 vettes had them too.
it is possible that they sent the heads to patriot to be machined but you'd probably have to call them and give the the etched serial number so they can check their records.

no ****.... do you think these stock ported heads would be worth the money? and will the gains be worth the trouble of puttin them on and buying the parts needed for them to fit?
Sorry for all the questions guys this is just a learning experience

If you can prove they are indeed Patriots, and what stage of head they are and valve sizes, etc... It "could" be a good deal.
Another factor is how many miles they have on them and the condition of the springs, valves and guides.
I have bought used heads before and think it can potentially be a great deal if you are willing to do your homework.
Personally, on any used head I buy, I would always spend the little extra money to have a competent machine shop look them over and give you an honest assessment on them.
Good luck.
