Default Mystery Head?

At our dyno day we had today we had a 99 SS car come on (he is a tech member) and his car made some great power, more then it should of made and he said the car was moreless stock as far has he knew. It even still has the maniflods on it still.

His head casting numer was "537" Does anyone know what this heads are from or off of?

Yeah, I was there and they were definitely a 537 casting. The car was an auto and put down some impressive numbers so they had to worked over a little or something.

I have done some searching and can not come up with anything but the old small block number and nothing as far as LS stuff goes.
As far as I can tell it looked like it was the head that was installed on the car from the factory just going by the the look of the head compared to the block had about the same about of wear and grim I guess you can say.

It was a 99 hugger orange SS so it was even kind of a rare color also. I just have a hard time believeing a mistake like this could be made from the factory so I would assume a previous ower put them on the car.

I would have to go look at the dyno on the computer records but just thinking off the top of my head it was around 360-370rwhp on a mustang dyno. could not hear any cam in the car car at all and it still had the stock manifolds on it and just a cat back and ported throttle body, that was it as far as mods went really

The members name on here is kevin99hoss, so he may have something rare on his hands lol.

that's pretty impressive through an A4 if everything else is stock!

I hope someone comes up with some explanation on this head casting number. Its most deff not a factory "mistake" or a factory head of any kind. Putting down that kind of power this car has some kind of work done for sure

It is with no doubt a factory casting its not a aftermarket head I am positive of that.
I have PM ed the member asking him to post up a picture of the nubers so everyone can see for themselves that it is not a aftermarket head and is truly a factory head of some sort but I can not come up with what the numbers are from.

LOL matt were u drinking at the dyno day, i checked the head casting when i got home its a 853 set (on the driver side head). The only thing i can think of would be a z06 cam or a very mild cam ( i have owned it for 2 years so who knows)but it dosnt lope at all, the only thing i know the car has is a lid, ls6 intake, P/P TB and a cutout a rather cheap setup. It put down 37X the first pull then 384 was the top peak for all 3 pulls.... yeah everyone there was surprized, i can scan the dyno graph in tommorow

It has to have like a -16° cam in it or something then. Plus you are an A4!!!!!!!! HTF!? You dont get those numbers off stock 853 heads and bolt ons. I know! I had a HOSS with 853 heads and it was only laying up about 365 with a 232/234 cam and some bolt ons.

Pretty Impressive. We had a local car put down 400/380 with a "Stock" sounding idle and driveability.

because the 799 heads are the same casting type as 243 ls6 heads? sounds like a good plan to me...but then I just bought a set of 799 heads used for $200, ssshhhh

In to see the dyno sheet. I can verify that the casting number on the driver side head is 853, just like on my 99, because I checked it out this weekend. Guess only the original owner knows if its got a baby cam and head work done, without pulling them, which is too much trouble just to find out. We always thought the car ran pretty strong for the limited amount of mods on it, compared to mine.
