Connecting rods?

If so, are they connected to the pistons? There is normally a forward facing
mark on the piston (a dot, a triangle, valve relief position, etc.).

The pistons should also be numbered for each bore if the rod and pistons
were clearanced by the shop.

Look at the bottom of the rods, maybe on the bottom of the caps. Look for numbers stamped into the metal. Haven't built a ls1 yet but most motors have these indications. Look for a dot on the top of the piston. This will tell you that the dot end goes to the front of the motor. If you did not remove the pistons from the rods your halfway there already. HTH

Oh yeah, your number one cylinder will be the bore that is the furthermost towards the front of the block.

Well I know about the dots on top of the pistons and pointing the
towards the front of the motor but I had all of the rods marked with tape and wrote what number they were but they took it off and never remarked them so now what do I do

Without having been inside a ls motor, don't really know. There are no marks on the rods or rod caps anywhere? You may have to call the machine shop back and ask them if they know.

optimally you should put them back in the same holes they came from, but since you are honing and going with new rings and bearings you can put them anywhere as long as the dots are to the forward direction in the motor...it is always a good idea to mark all rods, main caps and keep the rod caps with the respective rod when disassembling a motor.

With the cracked rod caps, its extremely important the rod caps are with the original rod, since they don't fit any other rod properly.

I'm pretty sure that if all your piston dots are towards the front, you won't have any issues, since the rods are almost identical in profile one way or the other.
