Default So I broke my car... bent valve, maybe more?

After some decent passes at the track yesterday I decided to run a wet 100 shot. Normally no big deal right? Well...my car runs very lean so I always jet up 1 or 2 jets on teh fuel side. I had 100 octane in so I figured Id try to go straight up on the nitrous and fuel. I had a great pass...11.40@120 spinning...but I forgot something. Well messing with the plugs last week I broke a TR6 and didnt have one laying around. I had to put a stock heat range plug (autolite) in #1. Well, I went lean, it ate up that plug and I assume the electrode got sucked in, stuck between the piston & valve and to out the valve. Did a blow down test and sure as hell it was leaking. So...how many of you think I'll me getting out of this with some labor and a $7 dollar valve? How many think its a ton worse?

Worse. Possibly a melted/cracked piston, combustion chamber damage, bent valve

Did you swap in a new plug? How does it idle?

It could be bad, might not be bad at all. Probably have to pull the head and find out what exactly happend. Might change the oil first and see what you find in there. Did you say that the plug actually came apart? I had a friend who shredded a belt at the track (blower), somehow a piece of the belt was stuck in between the valve & valveseat so he was showing no compression on that cyl But he is one lucky bastard. Possibly you just have the electrode stuck inbetween the valve and seat? This is wishful thinking, but you never know.

springs are good. No problem there. But when I did the blow down test it leaked badly on the #1 cylinder.

Happy to hear the springs are fine. One broken spring killed my motor. My best advice would be to call say Futral Motorsports and speak with Allan. Allan has always led me in the right troubleshooting direction.

I'm thinking you burned a valve.

At least it's on the easy side to work on.

When I talked with Mike last week he said your car was detonating pretty bad on motor. I told him to get it fixed and tuned before any spraying was done. Did you ever get that fixed or did you spray on it anyways? It sounds to me like more than just a valve is hurt here.

Quick leakdown and listen for where the air comes out, intake (Valve), exhaust (Valve), or oil fill hole(cracked ring or piston or both). My guess is severe carnage.

I ran as rich as I could via my predator 5%. Took back 3 degees of timing, and ran 100 octane. The car ran fine and detonation free when I was jetting up on the fuel. But my dumbass decided to run a straight up 100 shot without upping the fuel and she obviously detonated to hell

Mine did the same thing. Itwas melting plugs but the injectors gave up or got clogged. I sprayed it and the burnt a few plugs too. Bad ticking noise like drivetrain and no damage found. No comprasion in #5. I took the head off and I burnt up an exhaust valve nothing else. Stock GM $16 here. But as you can see I couldn't put it back together stock.. Great time for heads and cam! Good luck.
