383 cam help?
so right now i am in the middle of building my 383. the cam that i have right now is a thunder racing stroker cam. 247/251 .615/.623 112lsa. ive been hearing more and more about the eps cams so i was thinking of calling geoff at eps and having him spec me a cam. what do you think i should do? my mods that are going on it are
Texas Speed 1 7/8 Lts and ory
worked 317s. flow 300+cfm
around 11.3 to 1 compression
ls6 intake and ported throttle body
asp underdrive pulley
i have all supporing mods to support the motor plus a 200 shot. such as fueling, clutch etc. my goals are 500 on motor and 650 on spray. and a 11.5 1/4 on motor and 10.0 on spray once i get a 9 inch. my question is would calling geoff tomorrow and having him spec me a cam be beneficial and get me to these goals or would the cam i have now get me there?

also quick question about my heads/compression. one of the sponsors sent me the wrong bore for my head gaskets. my bore is 3.905 but they sent me 3.010 would i still be able to use them? and what would my compression be with a .45 gasket and 58cc heads with a -7cc piston? my goal is to be around 11.3 to 1. what is the max you can run on 93 octane with out worrying about detonation?

I have a tiny cam on my 383 with a FAST 92 setup and I'm almost making 500hp. I would change out intake and throttle body if more power is your concern. Worry about the cam if driveability is an issue.

Match the cam to your heads!
My 383 is putting exactly 500hp to the rear wheels, with a much smaller cam than your current one.
You have already upgraded the exhaust exit for the gases, but limiting the air coming in with the LS6 intake/tb setup!
Like said, look into increasing the intake/TB to match.

also how would the eps 236/248 cam work in a 383? ive sent a custom cam for to geoff a few days ago and called him but he still hasnt made a cam yet for me. i am really in a rush to get this motor back into my car since its my daily driver? would that cam be to small? i was thinking a cam on those lopes but bigger but what do you guys think?

I will be back once i install the new pump an maf to finish the tuning!! tuner said i will be in the 480+

I have a 240/242 in my 383 and thru my auto it makes around 445-450 with mids and a LS6 intake. My compression runs right at 11. When I change the intake and headers out I do plan on getting a new cam. I like the custom ones as they are, IMHO, a better choice for each unique designed motor. With that being said, I am running an off the shelf cam currently and have been happy with it. I haven't really looked at TR's cam, it might work for you. Isn't it suppose to be made for a 383?

Most LS1 head gaskets are 3.910" bore diameter. Measure them, if they are just barely shy of 4", then they'll probably be ok. If they are truly 3.010" head gaskets, then for gawd's sakes, no way in hell will they work. Not to mention they aren't LS1 gaskets.
