Default 228r or EPS 222/226 cam?

I'm getting ready to do a Head and Cam swap to my 1998 Formula and have been searching for a cam that will fit under my heads without flycutting(checking ptv of course). I have PRC Stg 2.5 5.3L heads with 59cc chambers and am using stock MLS gaskets on the LS1. I've successfully flycut pistons before but just dont have tools to do it anymore and am too lazy for all of that!

Should I go with a 228r cam from texas-speed, or an EPS Camshaft, or other? Help a dude out!

The TSP 228r on a 112 lsa is a nice cam with the heads you have, they are a nice proven combo.

Desired power? What do you think my answer is??? The most possible with what I have. The car isn't a daily driver but streetability is highly desired.

I forgot to add a few other things. I already own a Fast92/92 setup and have #30 lb Ford red tops(36psi @ LS1 fuel pressure) and have already upgraded the rod bolts to Katech rod bolts. Also currently have a 4000 stall converter as well as Pacesetter LT's, ory, and Magnaflow cat back.

EPS, custom cam!

IMO, doesn't sound like you need a large split, and go with a 224 (minimum) on the intake duration.

Alright, I've decided to see what EPS says, I sent them a custom cam request. Now I'll wait and see!

EPS once again. 226/234 would be another good choice. I am getting mine from him soon.

Glad you decided against the Torquer 2

To the OP, you should also consider a Cut out!

We have done many cars with a 228/228 camshaft and its a fantastic cam for great driveability and good power. Yes other cams can make more power and others less. All depends on what you are looking for out of your setup. Since you have a 4k stall it sounds like you are willing to give up a little stock like driveability for performance. You mise well go a larger then as long as you have a good tuner.

Lol...why is that? Your not a fan? I have my reason why, just don't wish to express them on the forums because I'm sure it would make a few upset

I actually want to restall the converter to 3600ish rpm but funding isnt gonna allow that at the moment since I have to pay the 400 for the cam and 400ish for a tune.

I'm a big supporter of the TSP 228R, but its hard to beat a custom grind when your wanting a little more performance than an off the shelf cam. IMO Patrick G is the man for a custom spec. Predator Z is very knowledgeable also.

Alright, just got off the phone with Geoff at EPS and he recommended a 226/234 grind, so I pulled the trigger on it and we'll see what we get!
