Default Strange noises... need your opinions

I have a fresh 383 in the car built by a reputable short block builder, but the top half and everything else is done by another shop...

I hear the "typical LS1 valvetrain noise" just like the stock motor did, but I also hear a noise that sounds like its coming through the timing chain area. Everything in the motor is new and fresh. Im not sure if it has the knock sensor or not, the check engine light is always on though and if you are in 5th or 6th and your going too slow for that gear it makes a kind of pinging or knocking noise but I dont know if that is tuning related or just typical. I run 93 octane of course motor is right at 11:1

I have faith in the shortblock but im scared that its something else to the valvetrain. It has Comp Pro Magnum Lifters/Push Rods, double roller, Yella Terras

Thanks

Did he clearance for the windage tray? W/ the 4" stroke crank you have to space the windage tray away from the crank to clear the rod bolts. That's what I would look at first.

I had the same problem... Sounds more like a scratching noise than a knock.
