Oil in my intake lid & TB
I've had the piston ring fix from the TSB for 2001+ LS1 engines, but I'm still getting oil in my lid and TB. This I'm sure is coating my MAF as well.
What things can I do to fix this? LS6 Valley cover? What else?

It's not your rings. It's the PCV puking oil back into the intake, which has been a common problem on these cars for years. That's the reason that the "Vertical" PCV mod was developed, along with the catchcan ideas, in order to trap the oil before it goes into the into....

Well the PCV system dumps it back into the engine behind the TB, which can tend to muck up the throttle body blade and right around it but it shouldn't be on your MAF or airlid.
LS6 valley cover conversion is cheap and easy so why not try it, but I still don't understand where the oil came from on the airlid/MAF.

I'm serious, it has to be from the filter; how else could oil get PAST the TB to the MAF and lid; air is rushing IN. And if you have FTRA or FRA, it can be worse from rain, pushing the oil through the filter.
Make sense?

I put in a brand new K&N filter recently, but the oil is pooling a bit on the bottom of my TB, and is the exact same color as the oil in my lid....I thought the K&N oil was pink, and wasn't sure if when it got dirty it turned brown? I was just wondering how it made its way all the way back to the lid.

OK, I believe you. I had oil behind my TB ( see my website for a pic ), did the vertical mod and it still happens. But the oil on my MAF and lid was from my K&N ( my experience ). I don't see how oil can get past the TB if air is being sucked in. Not that I'm doubting you Damian, please explain. Perhaps it's time for a Greddy for me.

Viper, I am not disagreeing that the K&N's get oil on the MAF. I've had that problem before. But when it comes to being on the backside of the TB, and inside the intake itself, that's most certainly not K&N oil unless you just dipped the filter in oil and then installed it
Oil gets into the TB/Intake because it gets puked back through the PCV valve. There is some "fixes" you can try that "help" but I have never seen a complete fix. I personally run a different PCV valve that made a HUGE difference. It's the 5.3L valve, which has a much smaller orifice than the LS1 valve. It's like 2 bucks, and takes 5 minutes to install..I cannot remember the part # off hand, but just ask for the 5.3L PCV valve..

I tried different valves, verticle mounting mods, etc., and some of that helped a little but I was still seeing oil on the TB blade. I have now installed a catch can, but I have no test results as of yet because the car is in storage for the winter.
I beleive the catch can or use of a filter (as some do) will help more than anything.

If you are visably buring oil out the exhaust, your issue is not PCV related.
Most people that have the PCV issue use less than 2 quarts in 3K miles. If you're one of the people using like 1 quart or more in 1K miles I would look elsewhere to find the issue....
