Hah...finally, more posts about chromoly coated rings. It's the moly coating coming off. It can be caused by heat, pressure or the combo of both in the form of heat related knock.

Don't know if others have noticed lately, but, most of the ring manufactures are now selling plasmamoly top rings. Don't know for sure, but, am thinking that the terms have as much or more to do w/ the coating process than they do the material; where as chroming requires dipping the rings in oppositely charged parts, ring to moly, so that it sticks & plasma involves a heated application of the moly to the ring. Again, this is a thought & haven't completely verified it yet. Regardless, use either something like a ductile iron coated ductile iron top ring, a steel coated steel top ring or a plasma moly coated top ring. Stay away from anything noted as a chromoly top ring. As stated, I think it's related to the coating process of which doesn't seem to be as rugged as a plasmamoly applied moly coated ring.

Moly rings with power adder that have been detonated will look like that. If you are using a power adder look into the AP series from Total Seal, they give the toughest ring I have found that will withstand tuning on the edge even when you step over a touch!

no power adder here.... only NA

but we suspect a knock at some point..... so can that be the reason for this...

the car was doing a blow by, and blue smoke at WOT

i'm gona use new Wiseco GFX Ring Set, are they good

It was hammered big time with detonation. Too much compression or too much timing or engine getting hot or too lean or bad gas maybe or all of the above!

i´m running 11.6:1 in compression

and at one time the motor had way way to much timing , it knocked bad , so bad it broke a piston


but it must have damadged the rings then too...

The Wiseco stuff holds up well. Now that you have identified the problem, if you fix it the moly faced ring would work also NA.
