Unhappy help with comp 918 blue stripe springs?

i have an issue with my 2001 Firehawk. i hardly ever drive it. i put the thunder 230 reverse split pattern cam with comp 918 blue stripe springs an titanium retainers in it back in late 2002. its always ran like a champ an never gave me any problems till the past few months its started to either pull timing or sumpthin like valve float at bout 6200 rpms usually in 3rd gear ive noticed it. ive only put bout 1k miles onit since the cam install cause i just want to keep the car like new. but this setup is almost 8 years old now. could i be expieriencing valve float from the springs being so old? altho hardly any miles on them? please help with this issue. the car has only 9300 miles onit an the cam kit a lil over 1k miles or so. thanks, Kerry

I would say you have guessed it. Even with no miles to speak of the spring will be compressed at times. That will put strain on them. From what I hear the single springs will weaken pretty easy anyway. I would just get new springs just because of the age of yours. Another thing I would not put the 918s back on it now just because of the spring failures the 918 has had. I just about lost my engine also because of the 918. I said never again and went with Patriot Golds duals. Much better to have two spring rather than just one just in the case of a spring failure.

thanks. i guess ima go ahead an replace the springs. prolly give it a thorough check over being that it doesnt get drove much. i mean i crank it up an drive it some maybe once or twice a month. an also i jus hope there wasnt enuff valve float possible to make any contact with the pistons. i havnt heard anything of that sort. an it still pulls extremely hard when the problem is not occuring. maybe this will solve the problem tho i hope!
