Default Futral Motorsports 408 Engine Build

After two bad experiences with local engine builders, I decided to send my car to Alan Futral to build the motor I should have built the first time. Going with the local guys who know how to assemble a motor but have little experience with LS engines is not the way to go. So the third time is the charm. Listed below is some information on the car and motor. Please note, the car is a dedicated race car which only sees track time. Alan will be sending me pictures of the build which I will post for your viewing pleasure.

2001 Camaro (Funny car cage mini tube front end - Weighs 3250 with driver and fuel)

Engine - LQ9 - 4.03 bore
Crank - Callies - 4.0 stroke
Rods - Forged Compstar
Pistons - Diamond Custom Dome (14.0 compression)
Heads - All Pro
Rockers - T&D Shaft Mounted Rocker
Intake - Ported FAST 92 - next year we will go with throttle body and single plane. Picked all the money off the money tree this year.
Cam - Custom by Alan - hydraulic roller - dont want to be messing with valve springs with the solid roller.
Converter - Neal Chance 5200
Rear - Dana 60
Transmission - Turbo 400
Tuning - FMS

I have attached a few pictures of the car and will have more pictures of the build later this week

Thumbs up

Your build looks great.

I saw some of your builders handy work in Camaro Now magazine there's a great article about the Fastest N/A 427 cid LS3 2010 Camaro.

OP looks like you have a nice pile of parts, and you chose the right builder to put them together so they will make optimal power.

I have played with the idea of a solid roller setup....... search, search, read, read LOL

Reading the article it looks as if Futural only built the 396. Another shop built the c5r stuff am I correct?

Default Futral 408 almost complete - Pictures of motor in car

Team - the motor is in the car and being tuned by Allan. I hope to have dyno numbers today or Monday. Charley was kind enough to send me the latest pictures of the motor in the car. As soon as I have dyno numbers, I will post up the numbers.

Any guesses on HP/TQ numbers, I'm hoping for HP in the upper 500's and torque in the mid 500's. Please feel free to post your thoughts on the build.

Thanks,

CoopZ06

I like the way you have the front bars tied into the rest of the tubing that makes up the supports for everything. The All Pro heads are also super nice. I had a set of them years ago, but had to sell them when I lost my old job. I really wish I still had them. All in all it looks like a great project and I like a lot of the things you've done to the car.

Not to clog up your thread, but if you search on here all of the Futral / Lashley drama is in a thread in the advanced engineering section if I remember correctly.

Coop-

I remember meeting you at the track and thought I'd chime in. First off my congrats to you for going with Allan. The guy has serious knowledge of LS motor'd stuff. I can't say enough about him since dealing with him and having him tune my car. Allan will treat you right and build you a setup that performs!
Good luck to you and hope to see you at the track this year!
