Default Rod bolt tightening - torque or stretch?

I know that stretch is the preferred way to go, but my stretch gauge is kind of a tempermental pain in the ***. I did use it as a double-check on one of the bolts during my pre-assembly and found that with the bolt tightened to the specified 75ft-lbs, that I had approximately .004" of stretch. Callies specifies between .0047 and .0052 of stretch.

Is fighting with my stretch gauge worth the extra hassles, or is torquing these to the 75ft-lbs good enough? I don't ever seem to hear of rod bolt failures with ARP bolts on here, and I'm guessing that the majority of the users here are just tightening to 75ftlbs, not goign based on stretch.

I use the stretch gauge on one bolt, this is my method:
Measure one bolt relaxed.
Torque it to 20ft pounds.
Turn it an additional 40 degrees and check your stretch. I think it will take 50 degrees, but I always creep up on it. Once you have your angle figured out, try another rod bolt. You will be suprised how accurate this will be.

You just showed a pile of parts and no explanation to how it happened. Sorry. Calm down it will be OK.
