Default cam lobes and idle

Probably a stupid question, but here goes; do the different cam lobes used affect how the car sounds, i.e. idles? Just curious if a cam speced the same from Comp, Cam Motion, EPS, etc. will all sound the same at idle.

Different lobe profiles have varying ramp rates (at varying lift values), which determine how fast the valve opens/shuts. A cam's overlap will determine its idle characteristics (intake/exhaust duration and LSA).

Yes, to a very well trained and experienced ear. The rate of the lobe (how fast the valve closes and opens, will be noticeable in the tempo.)
But cams of equal overlap will hardly be noticeable to the average Joe.
