Default Blowing ALOT of smoke out the breather!!!!!

i have a breather put in the top of a t fitting between the valve cover and the valley cover vent. i have an ls6 valley cover and the breather is my only crankcase ventilation. now i know a guy who has had this problem (blowing alot of smoke out of the breather) and when he took the motor apart he had a bad ring. could this be my problem? i have not seen any loss in hp either. should i be worried?

Thanks
Anthony

My guess would be bad rings as you suspected. Do a leak down test and it'll tell you which cylinder/cylinders are your problem.

Exactly as mines doing. I'm also smoking out the tail pipes at WOT.. Leak down showed I was at 80% on #8 and 90% on #3. I couldn't notice a power loss on the street but I dropped over 30 rwhp between dynos as things were getting worse. Like it was said, smoke out a valve cover breather means that a ring(s) is bad.

well **** mine is doing the same thing, i guess thats what happens when the car sits for 4 months without starting it. im not gunna lie, im kinda heart broken by this finding. i really dont have the money to do a bottom end rebuild. i dont have the tools and equipment to drop the motor or the proper place to tear down an engine. that sux

really not looking to tear this thing apart but i mean i raced the car for the passed 2 weekends that i've noticed this and i've been turning the 118-119mph that i have been doing all year with solid et's so i would think i would see a real drop in hp and mph i'll probably do a test over the winter just to be safe

Mine was doing same thing (supercharged ZO6) about 200 miles later, ringland on #2 let go, piece of piston came off hit the spark plug causing the gap to close, cause a miss-fire, etc.. Working on the forged build now..

Better than rebuilding during the "on" season.

In my experience I felt no change in power either. I never did a leak down as I just tore the motor down and repaired it. In my case the ringland on # 7 had broken off but the car seemed to run perfectly fine other than the smoke.

You could always just do a quick and easy replacement of the pistons that are damaged as long as nothing else is hurt. (cylinders, heads, valves etc...)
