Default LT1/LS1 T-56 6speed question.....

Will a LT1 based T56 work with a LS1 engine? What is need for it to work? Are the input shafts the same, bolt pattern, etc?

Thanks

I believe the tranny itself is the same one but I believe you have to have a bellhousing from an ls1 in order to get it to fit. The bellhousing from the lt1 is different from the ls. Other than that it should work fine. Not positive but I think it will. I'm sure somebody else will chime in.

Some of the LT1 trannys have different gear ratios depending on what year they are from. I don't remember the exact differences but some have .50:1 overdrive and maybe first and second are different. The front adapter plate(where the slave cyl attaches), the input shaft, and the bellhousings are different and would need to be swapped to the LS1 style. They can be made to work but it is not a direct replacement.

Beyond the bellhousing, the input shafts are different b/t LT1 and LS1-style T56's are different lengths, they need to be swapped.
