Default 01' A.R.E. stg2 heads ?????

I was told that these heads were BEFORE all the problems at A.R.E..... anyway a buddy has a set of these and NO INFO ON THEM he just knows they were bought in 01' and that there stg 2 heads- heres the problem:

lets say in a WORSE CASE SCENARIO: that the heads have bigger valves than 2.02's/1.57's..... would that hurt him soooooooooooo much (because he still has the stock stroke) or would he still get some kind of gain from them (if so how much approx) and also.... can anyone recommend springs for it (it broke a spring) so there gonna be replaced... but he doesnt know whether or not to go with a double or not (he doesnt want to spend any extra money on machining the heads) and they already have ti retainers on them.

his mods are 224/231 cam,lts,ls6 intake,and is spraying a dry shot (5177) its a m6 with 3:70 gears (moser)

Thanks guys

There would be no charge for complete inspection of the heads, valve job, and re-assembly if the are the early version heads. Stage 2 heads back then had 2.055 or 2.08. If they are 2.08 we can change a few things to help them work with the current combo or trade them in for a smaller valve set. The only charge would be a set of springs (parts only).
We are trying to do our best in working with customers that have "out dated" combo's in offering all labour at no charge; before and after flow testing is also included. If the flow numbers are not up to snuff this will be addressed as well.
There will be definate gains and should make easy 400+rwhp with that cam and long tubes.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit.

Nick,
Are you back? Hope things are well with you.
Those old heads worked fine for me. Went a best of 10.97 at 3350 lbs with 2.055 /1.60's and a stock bottom end.

Hi Rich, Things are well. I am back working with ARE but in a diff. role as I was before.
Your going to get into more trouble on here ( not that I need anymore!!) with our "oldstyle" heads running in the 10's JK

Ported TB for sure!

This posted in another spot

I know there have been other cylinder head vendors with old versions of thier packages and have got some customers that may be a bit hot because the "new stuff" works much better and flows more. In some defence to all suportiing vendors ( I know we are not here, hopefully to be resolved!), what was great 2 years ago is outdated today . This does not mean that all engines and cylinderheads that are out dated should be "updated" at no charge!! When you trade an 01 C-5 for an 04 there is depreciation and even with a rebuilt engine and a fresh program the 04 is still better.

We at ARE feel good about helping some of our customers with the "outdated" packages because we care and can supply the labour which is easier for us to do. I know the flames will start with some but the boards will see a turnaround with our service in many ways as we are in a better position to help our customers than were in the not so far away past.

(posted this in another spot also)

I did post this question on another board also..........and just for the record.......Nick OF ALL PEOPLE was the first person to respond- in less than 20 minutes..... anyway i've talked to nick through pm's and am VERY happy with his customer service..... i'll be shipping the heads tomarrow, and i will keep you guys posted(on both boards for that matter) on what happens.

And just for the record to clear something up: these heads had a spring break. but i guess none of that is really relevant at this point because my problem is being taken care of by the "man" himself

Good to hear from you! I will start a new post in the next day or so outlining some other ways we will be helping our customers with some old bus.

One more thing, the link to ARE in you signature doesn't seem work.

It does work when I remove the "home.html" at the end.

Steve.
