Default arp head stud confusion? Early 04 block or 03? End/upper holes not as deep on 4?

im about to order up some ARP head studs but ran into some confusion. my block has parts number 12551364 and comes in as an 04 like the seller told me. now i dont know the difference in the years head studs. when i stuck a screwdriver in every head bolt hole the outer upper ones on both sides were not as deep. it was just these 4 that were that way all the rest were very deep and the screwdriver did not bottom out. do i need head stud part number 4316 or the newer 4317? need to know by tongiht so i can order these up, thanks guys

Based on your description, you need the older Pre-04 bolt kit. Block number 12561168 takes the same bolt length in each large bolt hole & they are all the later short bolts. The earlier blocks take the much longer bolts except @ the center ends, as you have noted. Don't know which of the numbers you listed is the earlier set, but you will need the earlier kit. Buy a kit for an 00 LS1 & you'll have the correct kit.

It sounds like you need the 234-4316 kit for the pre-2004 blocks!

I have the same question about my LQ4. It came out of an 04 suburban. Where do I find the block number?

I just found out last week that the lsx bowtie block uses different studs with a much more expensive price tag. Almost double what the normal blocks are.

looking at some pics it looks like even with a shorter hole it should not matter. i guess i need some pics of what both look like to maybe help me understand what the difference is. looking at both it looks like they go into the block the exact same but the actual bolt length is different on where they go through the head which makes no sense to me.

OP, you need the earlier kit. My 04 LS6 block required the same one.

No, no, there is a definate difference. I own both types of blocks. Get the early bolt kit that several of us have noted & she'll be good.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread. I used the same trick the OP did with a screw driver, all of the holes for me came to the same place on the screwdriver and DID bottom out. I'm assuming my LQ4 is 2004+ requiring the head bolt kit that's all the same length?

Equal length ARP headbolt kit is 134-3610. Your in luck, as Summit has them in stock. These were hard to find a few months ago.
