Default Clanking/clicking possible rod/lifter/etc

so its either a rod bearing, lifter, pushrod, piston or something.
it started as a click after 2500 rpm and as the car got warmer...the clicking would start at lower rpm all they way down to 1900
at WOT it would do it... and it was only gears 1-5
today...i got iin it started her up and let her sit and warm...
well naturally the click turned into a clank when she warmed up...
my dads friend told me it could be something like this...but he says that it could be several things.
i had a little bit of an over rev before this noise started...so some think its a bent push rod?
whats your thoughts? and what kinda damage am i thinking?
im not driving it again (because of snow anyways) unless its too the shop to get it looked at so...? help

it doesn't cost anything to pull off the valve covers

Mine did that. I was driving along at a steady speed, and suddenly lost a cylinder and started hearing a metallic clattering noise. My first thought was bent pushrod, too. Turns out I broke a valve spring. Pull the valve covers off and check. You should be able to see either broken valve springs or a loose rocker arm from a bent pushrod pretty easily.

Be warned, if it is a broken spring - they are single springs. I was VERY lucky the valve didn't drop and smack the piston.

well im not very skilled on internals. but i wont be driving it until march and im getting her in the shop this week we can figure out whats wrong with it.
i have it narrowed to lifter/spring/rocker arm/piston/cracked flywheel/rod (bearing)
so...looks like im out a little bit of cash either way...

Do NOT do this anymore unless you want to cause more damage. You said that you've narrowed it down, how? Were the valve covers off? If so, you could have taken the springs/rockers out of the equation. If you over reved it, then it may be something as simple as a bent push rod. I would check all that first before spending a bunch of money at a shop.

the valve covers are held on by 4 bolts, unscrew them and pop the covers off

Steps to take off the valve covers:

- Unplug main coil harness between 2nd and 3rd coils (not the plugs to each individual coil pack)
- Unplug spark plug wires from the coils only
- Remove the 5 (10mm) bolts holding the coil bracket to the valve cover
- Remove coil bracket with coils still attached
- Remove 4 (8mm) valve cover bolts
- Remove valve cover

Use these steps for each valve cover
