Default patriot gold spring height

I just installed a set of these on my heads. I do not have a spring mic but I do have a vernier caliper. So from what I measure with that height varies between 1.754 to 1.798 coil bind is at 1.090. So at the lowest height I have a margin of .664. The cam I'm installing is going to be a .612 lift with 244/244. I know from what I read you want a .060 safety margin. How critical is this?

Coil bind height is a tuning paramiter. Higher reving engines usually benefit from tighter clearences. Is it critical, well if you actually coil bind you just ruined everthing in the valvetrain. So yeah it is critical.

A good measureing tool is a must. You can go through one of our vendors to purchase one.

Your seeing exactly what a lot of people see with the Patriot spring kit. Typically you want to stay very close to the same on your install height. .050" is a way way to far of a range. Your best bet is to borrow a height checker and see if your numbers are accurate. If they are you should request parts that are machined & setup correctly.

That's exactly the reason we machine the PRC parts, when you mass order something from overseas you never know what your going to get....

Installed height should be right at 1.800. I would look into why youre nearly .050 off the mark on the lowest one.

I just had the valves re ground on these heads there 327 6.0 heads could this cause a variance due to how far each valve is seated into the head???

Yes. You may also have measuremet error. You may need to use different retainers or replace some of the valves.

Just pick up a $40 spring height checker. Its cheap in comparison to having to buy a new motor.

I just installed my PAC springs and the most i shimmed any of them was .015.

Well a guy I race with has a height mic. So I will get that from him next week and measure them all and let ya know how close they all measure. I bought these springs used off the tech here but they have only a couple of miles on them hope this isn't the reason the guy sold these err.

Even if you gotta replace the coil springs, they're pretty cheap. Im on my third set of springs still using the original retainers and seats. The Ti retainers are the expensive part.
