Default What is an LS1 with spun bearing worth?

Hey guys,

I had bought a used (unknown origin, so who knows how many miles) 99 LS1 motor that I ran in a V8 miata conversion for a few months. I spun a bearing in that motor and bought a new crate LS1 and transferred over the intake, coilpacks, etc. etc. to the crate motor.

I've got a buddy that's interested in buying what is left of my LS1 with the spun bearing to rebuild it. The question is, what's that worth? Presumably decent block, pistons, rods, and everything else unknown. A shop pulled the rod caps to look at the crank and said "it's certainly salvageable".

I don't have any idea of what to ask for. I imagine it's worth a couple hundred just in scrap aluminum?? I tried searching craigslist and the classifieds here but didn't find anything like this as a comparable.

Any guidance would be helpful.

Cheers,

Dean

I sold one for 500 buck's not too long ago, it was only on craiglist for like a day, so I may have sold it too cheap.

$500 sounds about right to me also.

Thanks, guys. That's exactly the feedback I needed.

Happy Holidays.

I sold an LS1 shortblock for $400. The crank had trashed thrust bearing so I got another good crank to throw in with the disassembled engine. Used cranks are about $100. So I'd say if it needed the crank turned, I'd say its worth about $300.
