Default What is LSA. and how is this cam?

What is LSA ? I'm looking at Texas Speed's website and checking out their heads and cams that they have. My 98 trans am is all stock. I was looking at the Tsunami camshaft 235/240, .648"/.609", 111 LSA or the
torquer v.2 232/234 .595/.598 and you can either choose 112,113,114 lsa your choice.

I'm getting heads there as well I was checking out these : PRC 215cc CNC Ported LS Cylinder Heads.

Would those cams listed above work well with those heads?
How would driveability be on either of those cams. The tsunami if getting it as a package I would get the .675 springs and you can choose 110-115 LSA.

I don't want idle to be extreme and die out if idling, But I dont want smooth like you cant tell a cam is there.

Also, What type of stall and gearing would work best with each cam?

Oh, and off topic here, but anyone hear or have texas speeds headers?

Thanks for any input.

First do the bolt ons, Headers, TB porting, LS6 intake etc...
Then taking your cam choice into consideration, get a stall.

You have a long way to go before you cam your ride if it is stock. Also always factor in money for the tune after camming.

First make a list of all bolt ons you will need:

>Headers long tubes
>Y-Pipe (with or without cats)
>Catback
>LS6 intake
>TB (ported)
Etc...

Once you have established that, then you can see how much is left to cam and tune it.

You might also look at selling your car and adding the $8K to price fetched to get another ride allready modified and a newer model (just an option)

That is up to you but if so I would go with true duals dumped at axels then. No muffler will sound like crap.

ok then sounds good. So what is LSA? and how about those cams listed above any reviews/input on them? mainly concernced with drivability with them, it says they can be set at smooth idle or choppy idle, but if I got choppy idle then a good tune on it wouldnt it sound prett good?

The TV2 is a good proven cam, good on a 112 LSA (Lobe separation angle).

It will require a stall minimum 3500 rpm with correct shift extentions, I recommend Yank SS3600 (street) or Yank SS4000 (strip oriented).

lets just say the lsa determines the choppiness of the idle. the lower the number the choppier it is in most cases.

here's the formula u could use to determine how choppy it will be

228/232 .550/.550 112lsa

228+232 = 460/4=115-112lsa=3x2=6 so 6 would be the answer. the higher the number the choppier it will be

consider a fast intake and a 92mm TB.$700 for a good stall, rebuild the tranny for big power.who or how will you tune it ?you won't be able to hid those cams with a great tuner, but it will run great.

Nice man! You have your car paid off and have 8grand to work with What are your main goals with this car as far as power wise and is it a daily driver or a weekend car etc...You could go all out and get texas speed ms4 cam with 243 ls6 heads. Get the combo and Texas speed will work there magic and mill the heads that will raise your compression so you dont have to worry about ptv clearance.

Ok I think I have an idea of what im going to do.

Torquer v.2 camshaft with a 112 lsa.(I want it choppy)
PRC 215cc Heads
LS6 Intake
3000-3400 Stall
3.73 gearing in a 9" or 12 bolt..I heard 12 bolts whine when hard launching them at high rpms so going more towards a 9" even if it robs me of more hp I want it to last.
True Duals
American racing headers or Texas speed LT's
along with valvesprings, lifters, timing chain, oil pump
underdrive pulley
FLT level 4 trans
nitrous is a big maybe not sure bout that motor has 103k on the clock.

Anyone have an idea of what kind of power this will make with no nitrous? It through an auto.

Sound pretty good?

I'm a total noob when it comes to heads and cam i had a 2000 t/a 2 months ago procharged flt trans and 4:10 gearing and it was awesome. but heads and cam I appreciate everyones help with this, and any other suggestions please let me know.
