Default scat I-BEAMS good or bad

well im in the market for a set of rods to start building my 370. i dont plan on spinning it past 7500 and it will have 150 shot run threw it. the motor will be a healthy street motor nothing crazy. id rather run I-beams to save alittle weight so i was wondering about the scat I-beams. so whats the pros and cons of these. any info would be awsome

I don't know that those would be the first ones I would go with, especially if you are trying to turn the motor that hard. With a hydraulic cam, it will probably be done well before that anyway. I think I would go ahead and put an H-beam in or if you absolutely want to run an I-beam, I would look for an upgraded rod along with better rod bolts. About the cheapest, solid I-beam out there would be the Callies rods. However, I think a H-beam would be more than enough for what you are looking to do.

IMO I would just keep the stocks if your only hitting it with a 150 shot. Get ARP rod bolts for sure though, they'll be the first thing to let loose. Just my two cents, and a personal opinion based on what i've done with stock internals.

Agree, an I beam, would be over kill for what you are doing. Our H-Beam would be a solid choice. -Adam

All of those would be fine. I would definitely get them with a ARP2000 rod bolt in it. We run a LOT of Callies rods without a single issue to date. We have them at a pretty competitive price as well!

I'm a little confused. Please excuse my ignorance, but I thought the H-beam type rods were better and stronger than the I-beam type.

Depends on what SCAT I-Beams you are referencing?

The 4340 deals with the 7/16 ARP cap screws can handle way more than what you are doing ever.

The different H-Beams are all a lil bit nicer than those so it just depends.

Never seen any 7/16 ARP bolts break at such low rpm levels you are talking about.

I run Scat I-beams with arp2000 bolts in my 370 and they are doing good. Makes 500rwhp on motor and I hit it with a 200 shot, shifting at 7000-7200rpm.

We engineered our I beams to be stronger than the H, Both in our Compstar line and our in house Callies Ultra line.

Yeah if I went with the scat I beams I would do the 4340s with the 7/16s rod bolts
