Default Dyno issue TUNER says its timing chain issue

Ok here is my build 408 stroker, long tube headers, compcams xer287hr-12valve lift in 605 ex 609,stock heads, professional products 85mm intake and tb. So i went to go have my car dyno tuned and at around 3000rpm afr goes lean and picks back up. So my tuner says the headers start glowing red at 3200.so he tells me it seems like i got timing marks off.So i pull every thing apart and the marks are dead on so what can be the problem? Any one have any opinions?

Unless the cam was cut wrong........anything is possible. You would need to check it with a degree wheel to be sure.

I have seen the glowing headers on cars with excessively retarded ignition timing. How does the car idle? Throttle response?

In regards to the camshaft timing. I have seen one where the camshaft was a tooth off to the retarded side the car was really lethargic and revved very slow. Sounded like an old tractor.

The car seems ti idle fine and has great trottle resonse and dosent seem to be sluggish. I am just going to have to pull out the degree wheel and find out whats going on.

Well, the degree wheel is never a bad thing. I have my doubts that it is a cam timing issue. Does this tuner have the kind of engine building experience to make a definitive diagnosis like this or do you think he might be guessing? Perhaps a different tuner?

You might also look at fuel pressure.

Its making 398 hp 405lbs trq up to 3200 rpm and drops. the tuner thinks that it cam timing because of the headers starting to glow red at 3200 and going cherry up to 5800. he said he has adjusted timing across the board and has contacted the software manufacturer and he is stumped.

I think I would find and mark TDC on the balancer and check it old school with a timing light to see where the timing is really at. Is the a/f ratio going lean?
