Default LS1 starter mounting

Hello all,

My buddy has a 2001 camaro with a ls1 and he said he broke a piece of the casting off that mounts the starter to the block. Is the whole block garbage or can he do something to fix it?

Mine broke off the same way. The heads had to be removed in order for the block to be repaired correctly. They welded the piece back on there. Not too sure how it was done but it was welded on there. While the block was out had it cammed. Been running it like that for a couple of months without a problem.

I've also heard that after you get it fixed, to use 2 long bolts to mount it. The factory used one short and one long bolt.

^^In order to do that you need to switch over to the truck starter.

I broke the passenger side of mine off the block. I JB welded it back on after a lot of prep and used a longer bolt with a nut on top of it. Been started 87 times since then and no problems. BUt if you can get it welded,, then do so.
