Dual Valve Springs Keeps Ripping Valve Stem Seal Off?
Has anyone ever had there dual valve spring keep ripping there valve stem seal off? I have a set of PRC Dual valve springs and apparently the small spring on the inside keeps rubbing against the valve stem seal and rubs it right off causing my car to smoke when a exhaust stem seal rubs off (intake stem seals come off as well). All in all, I pulled the heads thinking the smoke was from a valve guide from one of the exhaust valves but I was wrong. Everything turned out fine so this is my only idea since I keep getting random seals coming off or being broken at the tops of them after a 100 miles of driving.
So any ideas? I have done many cam swaps and I have never had any issues but I called the shop where I get my springs from and they said try installing the stem seals dry and not lubing them up (I have always lubed them up in the past) and then I hit them with a 15mm a few times til I hear metal and know there on there. But this makes no since when they just keep coming up and breaking off at the tops where the coil is.

Well I just said F it with the PRC and got a new set of Patriot Gold Extremes so I am gonna put those on and that should work.
But I just found out from a guy that checked out the heads and said it is the springs causing the issue. He has a pretty cool machine to tell if the spring is hitting the valve stem seal and it was rubbing against them at just 1krpm's, so I am most sure this is the issue.

I have done this cam in many other cars with zero issues like this so I don't know why it would just randomly happen. But I have never used PRC before always used PAC or Patriot but I will not be getting another set from them. Tried them once and I guess it was a fail.

haha yeah I just got a deal on the PRC and I heard they are better than the patriots but live and learn. Only reason I did not do PAC is b/c I need them today and I can't wait on shipping and the shop has a few sets of the Patriots Extremes. But thanks again for the help.

I have used heads with those exact PRC springs from TSP many times and used those exact PRC springs themselves several times and never seen any issues whatsoever.
Make sure the seals you have are the correct seals. I would stay with the metal clad OEM style Viton seals like come with those springs.
Maybe somehow you got the wrong seals and that is why they are coming off?

I had the same problem all my valve seals came off and got smash because of the valve springs I'm running the ms4 cam and the same springs you had according to my machine shop the valve seals were a little to fat so he installed new ones but i need to take my valve covers off and see if they are still there because my engine is smoking

Nothing wrong with the PRC springs. I'm sure it's something else. The springs would have to walk around quite a bit. The spring seat controls this from happening. I run the exact same springs with zero issues. What seals are you running?

Ever find out what the problem was? I am having the same problem. I have switched springs, locators, different retainer set-ups and changed the seals 4 times using different seals and methods of putting them on. I'm convinced my springs are pulling the seals off.

Bump. Pulled the heads to them to two high end machine shops that only do race motors. Both said my valve guides were good heads looked fine. So just incase the problem was me I had the machine shop install the seal they use on all of there cars.
