Default Please help with unusual oil leak

I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 with a 5.3 so it is a LM7 engine. It has a horrible oil leak coming from the drivers side rear of the engine. I suspected the oil sending unit or cam position sensor so I pulled the intake off last night to fix it. Well neither of those is causing the leak, but when I pulled the intake off the valley cover and sides of the heads (the parts covered by the intake) were black and covered in oil what would be causing the leak there? I pulled the valley cover off and the gasket is still in good shape and doesn't show any signs of leaking. I'm lost please help.

Thanks,
Jack

I would agree with that but it was replaced about a year ago and I had the transmission out again last week and it wasn't leaking. Its coming from higher up than the rear main.
