Default 02 LQ4 or 05' LQ4 which should I buy ?

I found a 02 and a 05 in a local yard that both have about 70K should I buy the 05' LQ4, since it has a little higher compression? Are there any differences?

It is looking like my 01' Z-28 has a spun rod bearing. Would everything from my LS-1 bolt up and cross over?

Going to have to drill and tap a hole in the front of the block for one of the alternator brackets, but otherwise, your good to go. Im running a 5.3 lm7 in my car now.

How do you know how deep to drill without going too far into the block?

Measure the bolt you pulled out of your ls1, thats what I did. It was a little nerve wracking, but in reality, wasnt bad, bolt up alt using the rest of the bolts/brackets. Mark the center of the hole with a punch and drill away. Tap it and done.

Took less than 5 minutes to do.

You don't HAVE to drill and tap that third hole for the alternator. There are plenty of folks around here who have not and have no issues using 2 out of 3 holes.

Good to know that it can be done, without learning the hard way!

Get the 05, has the LS2 connecting rods and full floating pins.

Second that. For the fact that its an 2005 motor. Ls2 full floating would be in your best interest if you were racing hardcore; otherwise its overkill, the press pin set up would be good.

Side note from my recent tragedy, make sure you get a warranty, and check the bores before you fire it up. I recommend changing the head gaskets if you do not intend to change the heads. I was going to change the heads on my LQ4 with 56k on it from a 04 truck. Never intended to check the bores, just kinda happened that way. I found pretty severe rust, have to take it .030 over. End result was I got back $850 cause of the warranty.
