Best way to clean piston ring area of assembled short block?

Default Best way to clean piston ring area of assembled short block?

What's the best way to get crap out of ring area of an assembled short block?mainly stuff from head gasket removal!!

If I understand the question correctly, I would run each piston to the top of the stroke one at a time and clean it with spray brake cleaner.

I brought each piston to TDC then scraped all the carbon off with a razor. Then went over it with a dremel + stainless steel brush bit. Look as good as new and only took about 30 minutes to clean them all.

I Hit the piston ring area with air,then sprayed down with brake part cleaner,turning crank to try and get crap to stay on cylinder wall where I can wipe them!!just curious of any better way!
