Head / cam help.....
Ive owned my stock 2001 ss for two years now and it's starting to feel horriably slow to me so I'm looking to push 450 to the wheels as a bad *** street car with occasional track visits, but I don't feel like spending 6k only wanting to spend at most 3k on everything including clutch and exhaust I know it's a tight budget but I can push it if I must .... I'm looking at prc stage 2.5 heads with a ms3 cam ....fairly new to this but having two amazing mechanics help me out .... So open to everything haha

OK i am going to list my opinion of what it takes to get 450, in no way is it the only way to do it but a good guideline to go by. be sure to get the opinion of other guys on here, especially the ones with heads and cam setups. i have seen mild heads and cam make 420hp and aggressive yet still street-able heads and cam make 500hp! so it all depends on how much money you have really, and how much time you take to look into your setup. the tune will make all the difference too, don't get one of those mail in tunes, those are only ok for a bolt on car
For a good set of longtubes, y-pipe and cat back you are already at a grand. if you were not on a budget i would go as far to say get the Kooks true duel system, but it is at least 2K. for heads, pick up some 243's or 799's for about $400 or so. then a cam in the high 20's low 30's $400, LS6 oil pump $100, LS2 timing chain $50 (these 2 are for insurance purposes but are not needed. highly recommended tough), LS7 lifters $100, Hardend pushrods $100 (measure first!!!!) and a heads/cam swap gasket and bolt kit from GM $150.
Here is the List for ease or eyesight:
LS6 Intake (you should already have this)
Lid (any lid will do) $100
243/799 Heads $400
Cam in the low 230's $400
LS6 oil pump $100
LS2 timing chain $50
LS7 lifters $100
GM heads/cam swap gasket and bolt kit $150
Good Exhaust (long tubes, catless y-pipe, cat back) $1200-$1000
OH and don't forget the dyno tune $300 or so
This setup puts you at about the $2500 mark, and yes a dyno tune is necessary after a cam, and especially head swap.
now you can go with some cheapo headers and y-pipe and knock off about 500 off the price, but you will probably not hit 450, probably high 420's or so. but i am sure there are other guys on here with a 450 combo so let them chime in. i myself am looking for 460+ but i am going with aftermarket heads and a mid/high 230 cam with aggressive ramp rates and lift in the .600 range. good luck on your setup, oh and for you to make your goal you have to do all the work yourself, just thought i throw that out there.
