Default How long is it safe to keep heads off & cylinders exposed?

Going through a head swap right now, & due to some issues I won't be swapping new heads on for a little while. I have everything cleaned up nicely, but wondering how long it's okay to sit uncovered in my garage? Can I just cover the engine with a trash bag, or do I need to wipe down the cylinders with something?

Spray it down with WD-40 or the like and cover it. A trash bag will work. A clean painter's drop cloth also works well.

Mine have been sitting for a couple months now and I just put some oil on a rag and coated the cylinder walls and pistons. No rust.

I coated mine good with oil as well and turned it over then coated again. I then covred to keep air from passing over it so there wouldn't be any condensation. I had mine all apart when I had a family emergency and had to leave the state for a few weeks.

Literally drinch the cylinder walls with motor oil, gear oil or anything petrol based of that nature. Rotate the motor over by hand to make sure everything is getting coated. One rotation should do. And then check it often if it is humid out. Cylinder walls can pit very quickly if left bare

I like wd40, coat everything good and it will be fine for months.
