You would run a .581 lift cam on .580 lift spring? I suppose you would run a .598 lift cam on a .600 lift spring then blame the spring for failure when it breaks.

Can he run that setup? Of course he can. Will it hold up and work? Yes, but for how long?

Another option you can do is run a gm hot cam or the asa cam with your springs.

ASA cam
.525/.525 228/236 on a 110 lsa

Gm Hot cam
.525/.525 219/228 112

I think they would work well, the hot cam would more than likey have the best street manners but a lot of that depends on your tuner. I would run the asa personally but I like lope.

Neither are going to give you max power but they will be fun on the street and will be easy on your valve train.

I have a grind close to the asa. It lopes great and drives well. power from 2k up, pulls to about 6.4k with an ls6 intake. My max lift is .621, been awhile since I looked at the card. Im using patriot dual gold springs (.650 max lift)

Not trying to be an *** here, but if you don't have the money for all of the corresponding parts, then I would just hold off and save up some more money. Do it right the first time.

I agree but thats not what he was asking so I didnt respond with that. I agree with KevinR, hold off until you can afford a good cam kit, you will be much happier. You are really limiting your cam choices with the .580 lift springs.

Do you want all out power or do you just want some good power out of it? If you just want to up the ante a little and use those springs, the hot cam would be a good pick for ya.

Most springs are underrated for that reason.. so people don't over do it.. would I run a cam with .580 lift on .580 max lift springs that I didn't know anything about and took a guy's word for them, no I would not. I am running PSI beehive maxlife endurance prepared springs .620 lift and my new cam going in is .62x/.62x. Its not all about the springs either. Lobes/rockers/wipe pattern/proper length pushrod for a perfectly set up geometry in the valvetrain is what counts also.

Am I disagreeing completely with you, no. As you said he "could" but how long it would last is the question.. lots of variables here. I agree he should change out the springs for something better and be able to comfortably run a cam with higher lift than the ASA or hot cam. Waste of time and money puttin either of those in IMO of course.

It'll be worth it. If you go with a smaller cam, you will probably wish you had gone bigger.
