Default How will this effect drivability

The cam im thinkin of putting in has a 581 lift. This is what carteck suggested i put in. What im worried about is if a cam with this high of lift would decrease the life of the engine. I mean I would get all the little goodies to go with it (springs, headers, DR timing chain, z06 oil pump, pushrods, ect). I really dont remember the exact specs of the cam he told me, when he said .581 lift for a street car i kinda **** myself. He also said that the car would only have about 390 rwhp...sounds low doesnt it?

.581 really isnt huge with the new xer type lobes thats what kills valvetrain parts...look at the big picture lift is only a small portion of camshaft specs...yah and adding only 90rwhp to a "Bone stock" 2000 camaro with an ls1 intake oh yah thats way low if anything its a high estimate for a cam only car with no other mods a cam itself will only add about 20-30hp with tuning in most cases

They are good they are the only place to work on my car so far other than myself do yourself a favor and
a. Do as much work yourself as possible
b. research...dont just take everything one person says as gosple yes dave knows his **** but 7 grand for a cam only car with a stock 10 bolt? Im assuming its an M6 say bye to your rear soon...therefore id say wait on doing 4.10's as they are pretty weak anywayz(not as much material to hold them together) but thats me...There are also other options as far as headers go...some go with LT's and duals...personally If I had your $ id buy some pacesetters and get a true dual made...that should only run about $800 for parts & labor I dont know how many miles are on your car but getting a new oil pump may not be necessary, pushrods you can find for around $100 now & lids can be bought for under $100 now...i mean do it right but dont break the bank if you dont have to JMO

7K is a bit overboard.

Skip the 4.10. You'll only break it. Save your $$ for a 12 bolt, you're gonna need it.

I'd skip the Grots @ 1650 for Hookers ceramic coated for Approx 500. w/ Dr. Gas X-pipe dual setup for another 250.

Oil pump is prolly not necessary either. And as been suggested, you should shop around. Most of this stuff has come down in price or can be purchased used.

As a reference, one of the site sponsors offers a stroked shortblock for 4500. A cam only car for 7k w/ a stock rear? That's a no brainer.

$7000 If I were going to spend that much all at once I'd skip the small-sh**, and go straight to a supercharger.

1. You can find a lid for under a 100 if you look around.
2. K&N is optional
3. The fluids aren't included in the install price?
4. Shop around... I got /will have done my cam, springs, pushrods, ported oil pump, asp pulley, install (including fluids), Rollmaster double chain, Ti retainers, and dyno tune for just over 1900 bucks... Though I should do the install myself and save the 395 on that, after i take into acount fluids, new tools and stuff i wouldnt' be saving money.
5. agreed with everyone else, save for a 12 bolt.
6. LCA's can be had for much less than 165
7. Shop our sponsors, the LS6 oil pump can be had for about 120 if you look around. Ditto with the rollmaster.
8. You can find a magnaflow catback cheaper if you look around as well.
9. Finally, I got my ASP pulley for 189 bucks... check all the sponsors and one of those famous catalog companies that doesn't sponsor this board.

Damn, maybe I'll quit my day job and just start working on modding LS1s fulltime. I'll work a few weeks a year and take the rest off

I think the install prices are included in the costs which makes sense.
390rwhp is not bad, especially with 4.10's (although I'd probably save for a 12 bolt) for a cam only car without an agressive cam.
Is this the x-cam you're getting? I think the specs are 224-228 581 588 on a 113. I don't think the reliability will be too bad especially compared to all these 600+ lift cams that people are running now.

That is the price for the entire job...everything from fluids to washers....i also plan on putting on heads in the future, so thats why i went with the good headers. Again, if someone knows of a shop that will do it for cheaper and do a better job please let me know. Im thinkin of givin TTP and Eastside a call and seein what they can offer. i would really like to rather have the best work on the car, not so much the less expensive. Also which of the three are better when it comes to tuning. Thanks alot guys, you are really giving me great info!
