799s are the equivalent of 243s and do flow more than stock 241s. CNC ported 799s, if done properly can be excellent heads. Based on my experience with heads/street-orineted cams/tune set-ups, your gas mileage should be at least as good as stock and often a little better.

The heads flow more air then regular LS1 heads. A cam will like that. They will make more power. I might hold onto them until you can afford to have the CNC'd if you want the most power.

on a similar topic, is the process of getting a set of heads "CNC'd" the same as getting them ported? i'm assuming AI and TEA do porting by hand, whereas getting them CNC'd is done by a machine. am i correct?

CNC is the machine. It's computer numeric control. That means it runs a program. The operator designs the program and the machine follows the commands. Prices for these machines can easily exceed $100k. They typically get a great set of hand ported heads, design a program to tell the CNC how to duplicate the hand port, then you just stick heads in it and it reproduces it perfectly over and over again.
