I would pull the valve covers and see if you have a loose rocker arm. If they're all nice and snug then pull the rockers off and check the pushrods. See if one is bent. Roll them ea on a flat surface to be sure. If the rocker arms are fine and no pushrods are bent, then check your lifters. Could be anything that makes a ticking sound.

Start small and work your way up... Easier to pull the valve covers and check rockers/springs/pushrods etc.. Then go from there.. Wost case is its a rod knock.. You would usually (but not always) see a drop in oil pressure though from something wrong in the bottom end..

Good luck.. heres to hoping its something small and cheap to fix.

Also check around the header, top and bottom for any carbon buildup from an exhaust leak. This would be my first step honestly.

I doubt it would be a pushrod if the sound comes and goes. Lifter would be my guess.

True, but a lifter is more of a hollow tick.. pretty audibly distinguishable, that is if someone knows what their listening for.

I dnt understand how it comes and goes. You would figure the sound would be continuous. Lol

Ticking noises are almost as hard to narrow down as electrical gremlin's, I was also going to say a lifter, but what about a timing chain, my cousin had a bad chain on his truck and there was some good ticking going on there down the road.

My car makes the same noise. but what i have noticed is that its louder when i change the oil. i use royal purple. my friend told me it was the lifters. but i wonder if noise is making the motor lose hp. i have been racing my car with the noise for 2 years now and it still runs strong.
