Default stock lq4,lq9,ls2,ls3 shortblock durability

i have seen lots of HP made with a stock lq4/lq9, and ls2/ls3 short blocks. just how durable is the stock rotating assembly in these motors? im trying to build one on a budget, and if i can use the stock internals, that would be great.

i had stock internals in mine with
reconditioned-rods, pistons and a re-polished crank
put a tsp top end on it and made 491rwhp
that was at 9:5:1 comp as well
i actually have a 84 c10 short bed std cab, got any pics of yours??

We have found that the stock pistons and rods will usually have issues shortly after the 600rwhp mark. The stock crank can usually quite a bit of power, but if you want to boost it safely over 600 I would get some forged rods and pistons.

man i dont have any pics of it at the moment, but i can tell you a lil about it.
84 c10, 6 inches of drop, beltech suspension up front, leafs and cal-tracs out back, 12 bolt moser rear end with full spool, 4.56 gears, c-clip eliminators, built th-350 trans, 15x5 weld draglites up front, 15x12 draglites out back with 30x13.50 mickey ET-streets without any frame or leaf spring modification at all, just had to widen the wheel tubs. looks sweet with all that meat under the back. and finally, its brown... yes, brown lol. the one color that nobody wants on there hot rod. it was that color when i got it.. kinda set it apart from the few other square bodies around here so i left it that way..its been dubbed, " the ol brown truck" lol

i wana put some l92 heads on this thing, and holleys new LS tunnel ram for twin carbs. i got a sweet set of custom built holley 660 center squirt tunnel ram carbs built and tuned by the late Keith Dillard at Lonestar Motorsports in Huntington Tx and set up for a small block. im only looking for 600 to 650hp range at the flywheel. thanks for the input man.
