What cam? I went dot to dot on mine, and no issues at all.

Any good shop will tell you to ALWAYS degree it even if you arent using an adjustable chain.

most people get away with dot to dot, i always degree cams no matter what combo i have, i always want to know if my cam is in sync with the rest of the engine. even dot to dot can be +/- a few degrees off

I am assuming you don't have the proper tools to degree a camshaft, let alone doing it in the car, or even the knowledge on knowing how and do it?(no offense) But, I would just suggest installing it straight up/dot to dot and calling it a day.

There are 2 advantages to "degreeing" a cam , 1st You can get it precisely in time with crank ....etc 2nd You can change it's relationship to the crank for the purpose of dialing in the rpm range You want more power . For instance , if You advance a cam by 2 or 3 or more degrees , You bring more power to the lower rpm's and also lower the peak hp and tq rpm's . And the opposite is true , if You retard the cam a few degrees from 0 , You raise the rpm's that the power-band will hit . I would say that the first reason I listed is not important unless You are building a high dollar racing engine because the timing chain and gears are usually just about spot on unless You have a strechted chain . I don't know much about cams , but I recommend the LS2 timing set You can get it at Rock-Auto for $28.00 and You might want to get a Melling oil pump , not sure who has the best deal on that . Hope this is clear enough , good luck

If you get a double roller chain i believe they are all adjustable. Meaning degreeing the cam is a must at that point. Like I said before, I'd degree it either way.
