Default Gasket sets, bolts.

Hello.

I am getting the complete list of all parts needed to do my build.

Right now I am looking for complete gasket sets.

I already have the gm part numbers for the plugs, rear gallery plug, front galley plug....etc.

I am wanting the others, such as: valve cover, rear cover, front cover, intake, water pump, exhaust....etc.

Also looking for a complete bolt set. I may or may not need front cover, rear cover. But it would be nice to have those as well.

I do not think I want to use ARP, I have been reading and "some" people tend to have problems and I don't want to be one of those select few.

Bolts such as main caps, rod bolts, head bolts, balancer bolt..etc.

Motor is the following: 2004 Lq4, ls6 intake, 317 heads, and car water pump.

Looking to push about 500hp or so.

I am on the last few items before I start ordering.

Thanks, and I really appreciate the help.

Tyler

You are gonna have to search around. There are lots of bolts sets on ebay. Gaskets I'd get from your local auto parts store. Fel-pro makes some nice gaskets and head bolts, no need to be "GM" gaskets. Fel-pro even makes an entire gasket set for about 200 that has every gasket on the entire engine. Might be worth looking into in your case. ARP and the dealership will have your balancer bolt.

Some of the bolts I would not mind buying off of Gm parts direct.

Bolts are bolts, depending on prices I'd look for used ones.

See, I would rather buy new. I am doing a complete rebuild.

But I have found these sets.

But I am confused as to the bore refereed to in the set. Mine is 4", this one listed is 4.150"

I'm in Virginia. If I needed any bolts I would need the bolts for the Valley cover, and front/rear covers.

Alright, I have been looking around and the numbers for head gaskets are confusing me.

Head gasket from GM 12589227.

And from what I have come to find out it measures 4.160x.030 But the bore for the motor is 4" not unless it is suppose to be that much.

But then this kit the gaskets measure 4.125 and I don't know the thickness.

Thats a difference of .035" so what am I missing here?

http://sdparts.com/details/cometic-gaskets/compro1025t

EDIT:

And heres a head gasket set from Summit gasket measures 4.020

Now thats a difference of .140"

And this one has a thickness of 0.051 in.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12589227/

Also this is quoted from one of the SLP kits on Summit

"Includes throttle body and EGR gaskets. 4.100 in. head gasket bore diameter (truck engine)."

See that doesn't help with the question.

Somebody has to know the answer to my last questions. The thread has had 40 views since I posted it.

Well I just acquired a bit of money out of nowhere.

So I kinda need an answer for post number 11.

It would be a big help.

Thanks.

You can piece it all together from a place like WS6store or Texas Speed. Or else Summit has a full engine gasket kit. That's the route I went and I believe it was around $250. At 500 horse the only bolts I would worry about upgrading would be rod bolts and possibly head bolts. Otherwise just go with new stock. Never hurts to replace old with new.

It took me 4 damn days to find this.

I'm very surprised that no one knew this.

Thats exactly why you don't use a 4.000" gasket on a 4.000" bore, factory 6.0 gasket is 4.040" gasket bore.

Cometic has a 3.910" gasket people insist on using in an LS1 (when they should be using an 3.970" gasket), i've seen the gasket coating burned off around the fire ring on the 3.910 cometics after they've been run, it depends alot of the combustion chamber.
