Question stroker 408??

I want a 408 stroker, i'm wondering if it can be done with a LQ9 6.0L block, or it can be only done with LSX block?

Question

What would be the best block to build a 408 stroker (not LSX), what about 5.7L.
??

The best IMO would be the aluminum LS2 6.0 block. Same power as an iron block but about 70lbs lighter.

The 6.0 isn't that expensive, and it will be less stressed to make into a 400+ cube motor than a 5.7liter. You can always turn the 5.7 into a 383 if you want. Don't get hung up on numbers so much.

Yes a .030 over LQ or LS2 block with a 4" stroke = 408 It is just me but an LS2 block I would just do a cleanup hone like in sig..

W/O sleeving an LS1 can go 382 safely @ 3.908 (post 98 block). 97-98 block only hone to 3.903

So.. According to the math that's 351 cu in at 5.8L.... Or is that just after the hone and before the 4" crank? That makes sense then.

I thought you were saying that the 99+ blocks were 3.908 bore compared to the advertised 3.905.

If you go aluminum, I would only go with a .005" hone and make a 402 or go .010" and build a 404 c.i engine. Going .030" on a LS2 block is a bad idea. The sleeve is going to start getting thing. You can resleeve them or even a LS1 block but that is going to start getting expensive quick. If you are wanting an actual 408, the LQ4 or LQ9 blocks are the way to go!
