Default Questions on what heads to go with..

I'm building my car right now with the intention of EVENTUALLY building a 550-600 rwhp jack of all trades setup. It is first and foremost a DD, second on my list would be road racing, and a distant third would be drag racing. So far has been all suspension on my car, BMR SFC's, BMR Panhard Rod, BMR LCA's, BRM Lowering Springs and SLP/Bilstein shocks. Next up is exhaust which is a tricky situation for me. I already have a set of 1st gen SLP longtubes and their 3" ORY but they are not yet installed on the car. The ORY will DEFINITELY be getting swapped out for a catted Y (I already get pulled over enough with just a GMMG catback here in Oklahoma). From what I've read, I will have some pretty serious ground clearance issues and I'm pretty well decided upon swapping out the SLP long tubes for another pair, most likely Kooks (thoughts on which ones to go with?). My biggest concern is in the cylinder head department... It's really tough to argue with TSP's Stage 2.5 5.3L head/cam combo for $1,700 but if I can help it I'd like to get a set of heads that I can grow into. PRC 237cc Heads have been suggested.. will those be too much on a stock 346? I was thinking about the 228R as a cam choice.. If I were to go the AFR or TFS route, will AFR 205's be sufficient if I decide to go with a larger LS2 or LS3 based stroker? Thunderracing also has their AS CAST TFS 220cc Head/Cam combo, thoughts on that versus the AFR 205 combo from TSP?

I know it's all a lot to digest in that post, but I'm hoping to get a few good suggestions from everyone here...

Prc 237 are for large cubed motors. I believe the best heads (for the money)for a stock cubed ls1 would be the prc 215's or the tfs 215's.

Would they also work well on an NA 402-427 ls2/3?

No, on a big bore ls2 I would use tfs 235's or prc 237's. On a ls3 I would buy the tfs or prc,s designed for the ls3.

I hope you're planning forced induction for the power levels you're wanting on an LS1.

I'd recommend just some Patriot or TSP 68cc LS6 heads, hot cam, and D-1SC Procharger for a good DD and power levels you want. I've seen many combo's like that put around 550-600 whp on an LS1 and daily driven.

For a bigger cubed motor some AFR 225's or Trick Flow 235's.

the 550-600 would be a bigger cube ls2/3.. For now I'm just wondering if it's possible to pick up a set of heads that would work well for my current stock short block as well as a bigger engine down the road...

Tfs 220 as cast hands down is what your looking for. The real volume of the head is like 227cc when ported they will be more like a 235 head so those you can grow into and will work well with what you have now.
