Have not used that short block, but have similar Schwanke alum. block LS1 in my Stock Car road racer. Carbureted LS1 with mild cam. The thing is super torquey and very fast despite the mild tune. Car has turned 2:17.1 at Sebring 12 hour course and has been very reliable. Those lap times are very, very quick for a car of this HP. My first Schwanke motor in a SCCA GTA car
won races, set a couple track records and was also reliable.

I purchased my 383 short-block from them. The customer support sucks but I've been very satisfied with the engine. For the price you can't beat them IMO!!!

Remember a short block isn't where your HP is made. It's all in the heads/cam/intake

Schwanke is well known in the late model stock car, modifieds, dirt and road racing. He builds a lot of motors for the V8 StockCar road racing series and
SCCA GTA class. Tim's motors make good, reliable power. He built the LS3 that led and nearly won that ASA Transcontinental race in South Africa versus the SB2 Nascar powered cars. His LS1 motors have won the last three
V8 StockCar GTA class Championships.

Kurt Roehrig's GTA stock car won the American Road Race of Champions at Road Atlanta with Schwanke power breaking the track record with a 1:28 and change. Do a little research and see what kind of very fast cars can't touch that time.

Like I said, Schwanke is very well known in the racing world, maybe less so with hot rodders and drag racers.

Very good and well prepped short blocks. I have worked with one before and found NO issues. I would recommend them to anyone.

I have no personal experience with them, I just remembered a big thread from a while ago and it turned right up in a search. Good luck.

Not all of it is. You still need a good short block

The short block in a since is dumb. It doesn't in anyway determine how much power your engine is going to make but it does determine how much your engine will handle.

So what was the consensus? I have been looking to pull the trigger on an engine for the past 2 weeks. --> http://www.schwankeshortblocks.com/s...?i=1491&c=1216

AES looks like they have some competitively priced short-blocks as well. Looking to spend > $3700
